An estate for our pigs.
‘El Encinar de Ocón’ is our estate, located in the Ocón Valley (La Rioja - Spain). Almost 100 hectares of scrubland are covered by leafy woodland (Holm-oak and oak) within choice surroundings, an area that is rich in historical, cultural and archaeological heritage - declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO (). The estate provides our pigs - rustic animals with top quality meat - with great advantages: they are raised happily in the open air, feeding on grasses and roots on the estate, a fully ecological diet.
Almost one year the pigs are raised in a natural way on our estate, free to move around as they choose. They have feed and water readily available, thus favouring a steady fattening of the animal. Our work consists of merely observing their evolution and employing prevention methods to avoid diseases propagating and eating disorders developing.
