Extensive livestock consists in raising animals free, taking advantage of the natural resources of the environment in a balanced and sustainable way. In our case, the pigs feed on the mountain, moving through the oak and contributing to:
- Control the vegetation: When feeding on herbs, fruits and plant remains, they help reduce biomass that, otherwise, would accumulate and serve as fuel in case of fire.
- Maintain natural paths and clears: When moving, they open paths that serve as natural firewalls.
- Take advantage of local resources: They feed on what the ecosystem itself offers, avoiding waste and favoring a more balanced natural cycle.
